I dropped Birdy a little while ago because I simply wasn’t fond of it. On September 2nd I received a letter in the mail from Charter which I just picked off the floor today. Inside was a notice that they had received a complaint from Aniplex because I downloaded AoShen’s sub of episode 5. Needless to say I nearly shat myself. I never expected it to happen. I’ve got a friend who received a notice from the MPAA for downloading Little Miss Sunshine, and I wasn’t all that surprised. But this letter was not something I saw coming.
So what would you do in this situation? Especially those of you who are watching Birdy. Have any of you gotten one of these letters in the past? If the letter had been for say, Natsume Yuujinchou, I’m not sure how I would’ve reacted. At the same time that I’d be upset and fearful of losing my internet (which Charter threatened), I’d still strongly desire to watch the series, and there are really no other options that are any less illegal. Argh. I am sad.
I quit downloiading fansubs in July once SW started airing on BOST.
If you want to watch a series, there’s always patience or R2′s.
That sucks. It might be a pain, but if they keep sending you this shit, you could just go to your local library (or a computer lab if you live on a college campus) and download stuff from there.
The BOST idea is a solution I can live with, and I’m hoping it pans out beyond Gonzo.
I don’t really know how persistent the copyright company is that tagged me here, but I’m perfectly satisfied staying away from Aniplex’s shows for awhile. I’m not about to lose my internet over this crap.
Just gotta be more stealthy. Direct downloads over school internet, etc.
get verizon, they don’t give a fuck
Yeah, seriously, stealth is the way to go. You can just download from IRC or DDL or–worst case scenario–streaming sites. You can also tunnel if you know how to, or sign up for a darknet VPN service like Relakks. You get an anonymous IP, your connection stays fast etc.
Hi. Sorry for calling you “gringo”, my bad. I just associated a blog in English with an American person. About this thing, it is kinda hard to say “fuck Aniplex” when they are claiming copyrights in their possession, yet at the same time is even harder to see in a logical way the letter you got. As always, in a certain way everyone haves a valid reason for do the things they do…
>Sorry for calling you “gringo”
Haha, no problem :)
I am of course upset by the letter, but I understand where the company is coming from. The vast majority of people who download their stuff illegally will never pay a cent for their merchandise.
It just sucks to be one of the people that does go out and spend a lot of money on the boxsets of my favorite series and then get one of these letters.
Excellent site, keep up the good work
