A quick statement of my thoughts before heading off to work. I’ll just talk about each of the 6 parts in the order they played.

Have I got a Story for You (Studio 4C)- This one’s about some kids who are glorifying Batman as they see him: a shadow, an actual bat-creature, and a robot. It’s kind of fun to see their imagination take form, but the character designs are awful. Everyone’s got beady little eyes. Overall it wasn’t too bad.

Crossfire (Production IG)- This one was pretty great. It’s about one of the honest cops coming to trust Batman after he saves his ass and takes down some mob bosses while he’s at it. Easily has the best designed and most badass Batman of the bunch.

Field Test (Bee Train) – Oh Bee Train… You and your bishie Bruce and his godawful pointy nosed mask. The story wasn’t too bad for this one, as it had Fox developing a pretty cool bullet-deflector shield, but it knocked one of the bullets back into some mob guy and nearly killed him, and this was not OK, since Batman is so anti-gun.

In Darkness Dwells (Madhouse)- Hay, some actual Batman villains. Huzzah! Batman beats down Croc and Scarecrow and it looks really good. This one also seemed to tie into the movie the most, so it was probably my favorite.

Working through Pain (Studio 4c again)- And in this one Batman has to learn to deal with his pain and remember his training. It has one good fight scene, but too much boring dialogue. I already know all about the reasons why Batman does what he does. I don’t need one more cartoon to remind me. Also, they made Bruce look terrible.

Deadshot (Madhouse again) – This one could’ve been perfect if it didn’t have Batman knock a bullet off of it’s trajectory with his arm blades. Wtf. He is not a superhero. No human has that kind of accuracy. Anyways, Deadshot reminds me of Golgo 13 only not nearly as cool. Actually he’s not cool at all. He’s a total pansy.
Overall this wasn’t nearly as strong a work as I remember the Animatrix being, but it was Batman, so it was worth the purchase. I really wish I’d realized there was a Special Edition though as I would’ve liked to watch some Batman: TAS episodes for old times sake. Bah.
Oh man, you would not enjoy most of studio 4c works, the kids in the first clip are pretty much what 90% of their characters look like. I liked the way Bruce looked in their second one too but mostly because he reminded me a lot of the main character in Texhnolyze.
