I made a post earlier about how Kure-nai was the best of the season, and then turned it into a horrible lolicon joke. In all seriousness, I did feel at that time that Kure-nai was the best show of the season, but after catching up on Kaiba, I’ve been forced to reconsider. Whether Kaiba is really “the best” or not is something I don’t want to get into, because of the subjectivity of the matter, but I will certainly say that it’s the best for me. It’s like Mickey Mouse on crack. I don’t know if anyone has made that analogy before, so I may be unoriginal in saying so, but that’s how I see it. Watching the hero who confronts/hides from the big, bumbling bad guy who happens to have a thing for chasing after cute girls is only made more amusing when the hero becomes a little girl himself.
Finding out about a character’s past alongside the character is something that’s been done before, and is probably the main reason I watched Memento immediately after catching up with the series, but the idea of constantly changing bodies adds an original touch. It mainly serves to keep us completely detached from the truths of the past. While we know for certain who the main character’s original body belonged to, we have no idea if the mind and memories that inhabited it at the beginning of the show were the same that belonged to that body in the past or not. The amount of thought I’ve put into this series alone is enough to keep me talking for a week.
My theory on the current situation of the show (SPOILERS, of course) is based mainly on this screencap

If you’ll notice, the paint marks over the faces of Warp and Popo have been switched to represent the face of the other character, and judging by what little we know of their personalties, I’d be willing to believe that the minds of the two have been switched, and that Warp is in Popo’s body committing acts of terrorism using Neiro for reasons unknown, and the real Popo is now in Warp’s body and has had his memories erased, possibly eaten by Kaiba. It’s just an idea, but who knows. For all I know Popo is a good guy who just seems evil, but rather than waste time speculating, I like the fact that I’m still completely in the dark. And as long as I’m talking spoilers, Vanilla’s final moment was fucking depressing. I’m really going to miss that man’s charisma. :P
Anyways, other than one experimental episode (which was actually a lot of fun), the show looks great and the music is captivating, the characters are moving and the story is intriguing, and I’m simply hooked.
I’d second that. The only real problem I can find with kaiba isn’t really a problem at all, the subs are slow making it hard to place it among springs best.
You have discovered the beauty that is Kaiba. I am probably the only guy left blogging on it by episode looking at the issues Kaiba has been trying to address throughout the series so far.
@RRok: Well FB and Ureshii are good fansub groups. High quality groups are usually slow. I never mind being slow on catching up if it means quality. And at least it is moving. 6 more episodes to go before the end. Best OP of the season too.
>Best OP of the season too.
The animation for that is so awesome, and the song isn’t half bad either. One of the few shows where I sit through the OP every episode.
Why the fuck do you italicize titles? You writing a fucking academic paper?
I fukkin feel like it, you cocksucker. The only time I write informally is in correspondence with your mother.
About your theory, actually the show’s more straightforward than that ;)
and hell, I’m glad you don’t write in fucking Serif fonts unlike another certain pretentious blog out there
well fuck I guess it’s time.
